This one I’ve been working on in my head since I was about 12 years old... an
improved version of an early 60’s mechanical game called the Eldon Bowl-a-Matic.
The old game was a plastic semi-automatic bowling alley... which means
you had to take the fallen bowling pins out of the chute at the back of the game
and manually place them back into the pinsetter.
Too much work for me!
I
started thinking back then about how a real bowling alley pinsetter worked...
and how to get the pins back up there mechanically. I spent a lot of time
day-dreaming in high school classes... doodling gizmo possibilities on scraps of
paper and in school notebooks. I
spent some spare time (no pun intended) the last few years modeling the parts in
3D AutoCAD. The first prototype is
under construction. It’ll look a
little like the old AMF and Brunswick lanes I grew up on in Chicago.
If it works, I’ll let you know!
